New EU F-Gas Regulation and Its Impact
Important Update from Alpha: New EU F-Gas Regulation and Its Impact
As an agent for MAJA, Alpha would like to inform you about the upcoming changes due to the new EU F-Gas Regulation, which will come into effect on January 1, 2025. This regulation will have significant implications for manufacturers and distributors of ice makers using F-gases. From that date, MAJA, a part of Marel, will no longer manufacture or ship certain ice machines within Europe and globally.
Important Dates for MAJA Ice Machine
As a distributor of MAJA ice machines, you are permitted to purchase any MAJA flake and nugget ice machines until December 31, 2024, and sell them until December 31, 2025. However, starting January 1, 2026, you will no longer be authorized to sell and buy ice machines using fluorinated gases (F-Gases) within the European Union.
Impact on Customers and End-Users
The customers and end-users will still be able to use ice machines with F-gases. However, they might experience increased maintenance costs due to the anticipated decrease in the availability of F-gases.
Affected MAJA Ice Makers
From January 1, 2025, MAJA, a part of Marel, will discontinue the shipment and sale of the following models:
– MAJA SAH 85 R449A flake ice machine
– MAJA SAH 170 R449A flake ice machine
– MAJA SAH 250 R449A flake ice machine

– SAH 400 EcoPro
Discover the EcoPro Range: Leading in Sustainable Flake Ice Production
The MAJA SAH 85 EcoPro and SAH 170 EcoPro models use the natural refrigerant propane R290 (GWP 3), which has almost zero impact on the greenhouse effect, making them compliant with the new EU F-Gas Regulation. With outputs of 85-170 kg/24 hr, these models are ideal for lower-volume flake ice needs.
RVH Series: High-Volume Flake Ice Production
The RVH series is compliant with the new EU F-Gas Regulation, offering high-volume production with outputs of up to 12,000 kg/24 hr. Using natural refrigerants like NH3 and CO2, these machines can achieve maximum outputs of 14,000 to 15,200 kg/24 hr.
Upcoming Launch: SAH 250 and 400 EcoPro
In autumn 2024, MAJA will introduce two new compact flake ice machines with outputs of 250 and 400 kg/24 hr. These models will use propane as the refrigerant, ensuring compliance with the new EU F-Gas Regulation.
MAJA Nugget Ice Portfolio
The following MAJA nugget ice makers, using propane, will not be affected by the new regulation:
– NAS/NAC 175 L
– NAS/NAC 300 L
– NAS/NAC 530 L
